Short answer

UC San Diego admitted 47.4% of transfer applicants for fall 2026 (12,473 of 26,339). To transfer, complete at least 60 semester (90 quarter) transferable units, the UC seven-course pattern and your major's preparation courses, then apply on the UC application by November 30. UCSD does not offer TAG, so many students file a TAG at another campus as a backup.

Major Preparation

Major-specific preparation is critical at UCSD:

UCSD screens heavily for major prerequisite completion
STEM majors require strong math and science sequences
Check ASSIST.org for your CC-to-UCSD articulation
Selective majors (Data Science, Engineering, Public Health) require minimum major prep before you transfer. List an alternate major too

No TAG at UCSD

UCSD is one of three UCs that don't offer the Transfer Admission Guarantee (with Berkeley and UCLA):

Admission is competitive and based mainly on GPA and completed major preparation
Many majors expect specific prerequisites finished before you transfer. Check ASSIST for your major
File a TAG at another campus, such as UC Davis or UC Irvine, as a guaranteed backup. Not every major is open to TAG there (Computer Science isn't at either)
